Control Surveys
Control surveys are performed at the
beginning of the project for the aerial photogrammetric work,
supplementary surveys, right-of-way and property surveys, as well as for
construction staking. These control surveys are supplemented as needed
to facilitate construction staking and the control of construction
staking throughout the project.
Field Investigations
Field investigations include field
surveys, aerial surveys, review of data available from record maps,
utility maps, assessment district maps, improvement plans, and
Assessor’s parcel maps. Field surveys are used to identify items such as
obstructions, as-built locations of utilities, flow lines of drainage
and stream crossings, details of bridge and drainage structures,
elevations at fences, walls, manhole covers, utility vaults and the
location, trunk diameter and type of trees that may be in conflict with
proposed improvements. Aerial surveys are used to locate structures
(driveways, ramps, sidewalks, drainage and bridge facilities) to
identify topographic features (contour intervals, grade breaks, toe of
slope, hinge points, elevation at edge of pavement), improvements (such
as existing residences and residential structures), visible utilities
and striping. Plan and map information are used to supplement field and
aerial survey data.
Field investigations would specifically
include the location and identification of:
• Topographic Information – Contour intervals, grade breaks, toe of
slope, hinge points, elevations at edge of pavement, centerline, lane
lines, fog line, flow line of roadside ditches, flow lines of drainage
conduits and swales, elevations at fences, walls, vaults, manhole
covers, pull boxes, visible utilities.
• Trees – Location, height, trunk diameter and type of trees.
• Structures – Driveways, culverts, drainage structures, curbs, edge of
pavement, fences, walls, existing residential and commercial structures,
existing signal improvements, points of connection at each terminus of
proposed improvements.
• Visible Utilities – Location of utility poles, guy anchors, pull
boxes, vaults, manholes, meters.
Construction
Staking Tasks typically include office calculations and construction
staking diagrams and all field construction control. All locations,
lines and grades of proposed improvements are staked at the appropriate
minimum interval and offset.
The following are examples of the types of projects on which our staff
has provided surveying and/or construction staking services:
• Water and Wastewater Treatment Projects
• Maintenance Facility Projects
• Military Base Housing Projects
• Residential Development Projects
• Commercial Development Projects
• Storm Drainage and Flood Control Projects
• New Roadway and Roadway Widening or Realignment Projects
• Traffic Signalization Projects
• Bikeway Projects |
